To get a copy of your Texas Teacher certificate, go to the State Board for Educator Certification website, http://www.sbec.state.tx.us, and click on the link that says "Official Record of Educator Certificates. Just enter your first, middle, and last name, and your current certifications will come up.

This record is the official record, and I believe that's how school districts check for certification of new applicants.

Actually, that link does not work. Here is the actual link:

To request a copy of your high school diploma, earned at a public school in Texas, you must first request a copy of your high school transcript from Inactive Records - each school district is independent so start your search at your school district's website.

For example, if you graduated from a public school in Houston:

  • Request high school transcript @ http://www.houstonisd.org/portal/site/federalstatecompliance/menuitem.34dc6c52c9628c78b4bef461e041f76a/?vgnextoid=5338dfb4a96fe010VgnVCM10000028147fa6RCRD&vgnextchannel=2c8a210fa27ee010VgnVCM10000028147fa6RCRD.
  • After you receive a copy of your Houston high school transcript, you should present it to the Registrar of the High School you graduated from. Takes 6-8 weeks for a duplicate diploma in Houston, though other school districts may be different. If you obtained your GED, you can request a duplicate certificate here:

To teach within the public school system in the United States at the pre-K through high school levels, you must have a minimum of a bachelor's degree in a teacher education program from a regionally accredited college or university and state teacher certification. This would take approximately four years to complete as a full-time student, provided you take the program as prescribed by the college or university. Individuals who already have at least a bachelor's degree but not in an education program, can obtain certification to teach specific courses through the Alternative Route Program within the state they wish to teach.

For the source and more detailed information concerning your request, click on the related links section (U.S. Department of Labor) indicated directly below this answer section.
