Firstly, don't believe the Chrysler dealer when he tells you that the interior door handle can't be supplied separately because it's an integral part of the door panel and it can't be removed. They wanted to charge me approximately $700.00 for a new door panel. Nice try, chaps.
Remove the door panel. This is really easy. There are 3 screws on the bottom edge of the panel, one sunk into the hand-grip recess that you use to pull the door shut and one behind the door handle that you use to open the door. Remove these screws.
Pull off the panel. It's held in place by a series of push-fit pins. Start at the bottom of the panel, there are some indents that make it easy to get your fingers behind. Once you've done that, work your way around, popping the panel off. If you can't get sufficient grip, use a nylon prying tool, not a screwdriver!
Once the panel is free, disconnect the 2 plugs that attach to the electric window control switch-pack and the central locking switch on the inside of the door panel.
Now disconnect the door handle mechanism from the push/pull rod that operates the door latch. You might need to pry it off, but if the handle is broken, it'll probably be detached and loose anyway.
Now the panel is free, flip it over. (I was working outside, I used an old blanket to rest the panel on to avoid scratching it.) The door handle assembly is held in place by 2 small hex-screws. Remove them and push the door handle assembly out with your thumbs. Easy!
Now install your replacement handle and reverse the above process. If you don't have a replacement handle available, you can get your door working again by tying some string to the end of the push/pull rod and threading it trough the door handle assembly. Replace the panel and you can open the door by pulling the string. I tied a loop in the end of my string to make it easier to use.
Replacement door handles are hard to find. I could only find one on the internet and that was $133.00. I couldn't bring myself to shell out that much for a plastic handle when I could make it work with string.
I found a salvage yard with a Sebring in stock. The handle cost $10.00. Much more acceptable.
Hope this helps and good luck with your repair!
