The procedure for replacing the control arm is to do everything you would do for replacing a ball joint, plus 1 extra step:
- Remove the long bolt that attaches the control arm to the frame.
The "Related Question" below about the 1996 and newer Taurus / Sables includes not only the ball joint procedure, but also how many of us dealt with the complication of the joint being frozen to the control arm/steering knuckle.
You will need to have the front end aligned when it's finished anyway, so why not just take it to a specialist shop. There are many places that just do suspension and steering and it's often more cost effective to have them do the whole thing.
