How to replace the headlamp bulbs in a 2000-2005 Mercury Sable
To replace headlight bulb:
Do not twist, as there are alignment slots built into the lamp assembly socket.
It may take some effort to remove the lamp because it has a rubber o-ring type seal - try a bit of wiggling side-to-side
Make sure that the flat surface of the bulb socket is facing upward, and is firmly seated
Replacing front parking lamp/turn signal/cornering lamp bulbs
If the bulb is accidentally touched, it should be cleaned with rubbing alcohol before being used.

This sounds more like a headlamp switch assembly suggestion than one for the actual headlamp assembly. Mine is a 1997, and it calls for turning the assembly retaining ring counterclockwise (when viewed from the back of the assembly), unplugging the wire by gently lifting the latch while pulling, and then removing the bulb.
The procedure for changing the headlamp and turn signal bulb on a 2000 Sable Wagon is to remove the headlamp assembly by first removing the small hex screw that holds the assembly to the body and then remove the two clips that look like half moons and push down through the body to engage the headlamp assembly. Simply pry both of these straight out and remove the entire assembly. Undo the electrical connections and twist off the retainer for either the headlight or turn signal bulb. Reverse the procedure for reassembly.

changing the headlight bulbs easy as 123that's easy there are two pins you pull out, they are located on top of the lights at the back of them.(when you open your hood look straight down at the light the two black little pieces pull out) then there's a screw its an 8mm i think loosen it and the light well pull out. then just twist the harness and there's the lightThree screws hold the headlight turn signal bezel onto the car. Remove those three screws and the turnsignal will pull out of the fender far enough to twist out the bulb socket.

The combination turn signal, cruise control, windshield wiper, and headlight dimmer switch simply plugs in. Pull the relay switch out and replace with the new switch.
Remove the headlight assembly above the faulty signal bulb. This will give you access to the signal bulb socket. To remove the headlight assembly, open the hood, stand in front of the headlight assembly, notice two black tabs sticking up behind the headlight assembly inside the radiator support. Pull up and wiggle the tabs to remove them, this will release the headlight assembly. You can now wiggle the headlight assembly out to gain access to the signal bulb socket for replacement.
On a 1999 C5 corvette manually put the flip up headlight in the up position, remove the plastic headlight trim around the headlight with three screws... put your bare arm under the raised headlight and remove the turn signal bulb with a careful twist.
To replace a turn signal on a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee prop the hood open. Locate the headlight housing and the turn signal will be located next to it. Find the bulb and remove it from the housing. Replace the bulb.
It looks as if I'll have to crawl under the front of the car to access the bulb to replace it.
Open the hood, remove the two tabs that lock the headlight assembly in place, remove the headlight assembly, doing this will give you access to the signal light socket for bulb replacement.

Look back on responses to how to change headlight or turn signal assemblies on this page. Do the same thing, just twist out the bulb and twist in the new and reassembe. You must remove the turn signal assembly and the headlight assembly must be loosened. But it is very easy.
