To replace the driver's side headlight on a 2001 Odyssey, first open the hood and make sure the battery contacts are protected for safety. Second. identify and locate the headlight bulb/connector assembly. The bulb/connector assembly is surrounded by a round rubber boot. The bulb has an almost square connector on it with wire coming out of the connector. Third. Once the bulb/connector assembly is located, remove a plastic housing that connects appears to surround and is located directly behind the bulb/connector assy. To do this, remove two small plastic pins that secure the plastic housing to the vehicle by pulling straight up or out. With these two pins removed put them in a safe place then lift the small plastic housing straight up and notice a post on the housing that fits into a grommet - this will need to be replaced back into the grommet and pin secured to reassemble after bulb replacement. Fourth. Remove an air duct housing between the bulb and battery. To do this, lift straight up on the air duct housing and move it to the side. Then find a large glove or small towel and place it over the resulting hole revealed when you removed the air duct. Fifth. Remove the connector from the bulb. To do this, grip the connector and pull it straight back toward the battery (do not twist the connector as there is no need for this). Sixth. Peal off the rubber protection piece surrounding the bulb. Just peal it away to reveal the bulb's spring/wire used to secure the bulb. Sixth. With the air duct housing out of the way and connector removed from the bulb place a small mirror behind the bulb to reveal how the bulb is secured to the headlight housing. Notice that there is a spring/wire wrapped around the headlight bulb. Once side of the spring/wire closest to the bumper acts as a hinge/pivot side which is secured with small screw (do not remove the screw as this is not necessary). Notice that the spring/wire assy closest to the middle of the engine compartment shows a square curve in the wire. Place your finger on the square curved part of the spring wire and lift it up toward the hood. This will loosen the spring/wire from the headlight bulb allowing it to hinge away from the bulb. Without bending the spring/wire remove the bulb. Seventh. Pull the bulb straight out of the headlight housing . Replace the new bulb into the headlight with the middle terminal positioned up toward the hood. Then, close the spring/wire assy and bend the square/curved part of the spring/wire around the headlight assembly to click it into place. Eighth. Replace the rubber protection piece around the bulb. Make sure it is snug and in place. Then reconnect the connector to the bulb, replace the air duct housing by pressing it firmly back into the air duct, replace the plastic housing over the air duct (make sure the pin in the bottom is placed in the grommet and the pins are used to secure the housing back to the engine compartment. Open the fluid to the engine compartment. Take hold of the light bulb connector, on the back of the headlight. Push the connector in and turn at the same time. The light bulb will come out.
