How do you replace the alternator on 2002 Mercedes C230?

The alternator is located in the front lower left of the engine, if looking in from the front.

Disconnect battery ground cable first.

You need to remove the belt first. Use a 17mm socket and release tension on the belt tensioner to remove the belt.

Then the alternator is held in by 2 external torx bolts. Remove these bolts and press the alternator out of the side of the engine. you will then need to remove the rear cable, and electrical connection.

Also, the voltage regulators go bad on these cars way more then the whole alternator, so you might want to check on that first. Its attached to the rear of the alternator, and can be replaced seperatly.
