Jack up the car and remove the tire from the passenger side of the car. Remove the plastic inner splash guards to expose the tensioner. Put a wrench on the nut that holds the pulley on and push it clockwise to remove tension on the serpentine belt. While doing this, pull the serpentine belt off to remove pressure on the tensioner. Once you have completed this task, you will need a 10mm socket; I suggest using an black impact socket; I broke 3 regular sockets and then finally bought a set of good sockets at Sears $30. for a set of 10. Remove the 2 nuts, replace the tensioner and then replace the belt the same way you removed it. The hardest part is removing the 2 nuts on the tensioner; they are extremely tight. Good luck. If you need more details, ask and I will update this message.

How can I replace the headlamp on a 2000 Saturn SL1
I believe you need to replace a timing belt. Cause it uses timing chain which doesn't required to change as timing belt.
chain
Search this forum for a post asking how to replace the belt tensioner, it will detail the process. It is only a couple of bolts that hold it on, but you will have to work through the passenger wheel well to gain access. Good luck
Chain
I have a95 sl1 saturn with a bad ac compress that rattles and want torerout the serpentine belt off the compress. What is the typical cost and is it worth it?

Check your belt. That's most likely where its coming from
Chain
Usually just a socket and a breaker bar. Just release the spring tensioner, remove the old belt and put the new one back in it's place. Make sure you understand where the belt goes because it can get a little confusing once the old belt is off. Maybe take a digital picture or make sure you have a belt routing diagram.
