If you look at the back of the rear end you will see a big plate that is bolted to the housing. It may have 12 to 14 bolts that hold it on, Remove them and pry the plate off and the gear oil will come out. There is a plug up on the side of the housing close to where the driveshaft bolts to the front of the housing. Remove it so you can fill it back up with gear oil after you put the rear end plate back on.
how is it to replace fuel pump on 2000 Chevrolet truck
Dextron
Just fill the the rear differential will fuild comes out and your done.
If there is no drain plug you have to remove the pan.
You have to remove the rear cover on the differential housing. Once the fluid is all drained, replace cover with new gasket (or use silicone sealer) and refill through 3/8" square plug on the side of the unit. One other point to this. Replacing the fluid can be a bit tricky. By the time you get yourself, your tools, and your bottle of fluid under the truck it can be a challenge to the fluid in the differential. To ease the problem, get a small section of hose to connect to the spout of the bottle and then run the other end into the differential and squeeze. It is pretty easy and faster.
You may need differential fluid...check that.
