You need to pop the whole plate off. The part is fairly expensive, but I had the handle on mine sheer off during off during the winter, and I needed to get underneath the entire door handle and pop it off. It comes off and comes back together fairly easily.

Check on eBay, the complete door handle assemblies are selling for between $20 - $30.
