How do you replace the fuel pump located on a 97 Dodge Grand Caravan?

Very easy if the fuel tank is nearly empty, if it is not then you will need to remove the entire fuel tank from the vehicle otherwise you rise spilling gasoline EVERYWHERE.

If the tank is about 1/4 or less then follow this method:

• Secure the bottom center of the gas tank with a jack or some type of device you can use to lower and raise the gas tank.
• Remove the two tank strap bolts and let the tank straps hang freely, no need to remove them.
• Remove fuel hose from line connected near the front of the gas tank (a plastic line coming from the pump will be clipped into a metal line).
• Slowly lower fuel tank about a half of a foot and unplug electrical connector and fuel line from pump assembly. (Depending on specific model there may be additional Evap lines or return lines running into the fuel pump, normally there is only the one fuel line, but use this time to disconnect all other lines from the pump.)
• Unscrew the securing ring from the top of the fuel pump in a counterclockwise manner. (A special tool is available for this but you can use a very large pair of pliers or a carefully use a hammer and flat-blade screwdriver)
• Lower fuel tank enough to facilitate pump removal, then reverse procedure to install. (Be sure to either install a new gasket/ O-ring with the new pump or make sure the old one is still in good condition and properly lined up. Also now is a good time to replace the fuel filter.)

In order to remove the fuel tank if it is too full simply remove the filler neck hose from the tank during the second or third steps and have a helper lower the tank from the vehicle. Be mindful of any additional hoses or lines that may be connected to the tank.
