How do you replace the key cylinder on a Jeep Cherokee? In: Jeep Cherokee |
[Edit] |
Answer
This answer is not for removing a key cylinder on on a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, which I was looking for the answer for, or any before 1995 according to the Hanes manual. To find that answer you would need to either ask that question or look elsewhere as Hanes does not have it in their manual or here so far. For some other models, though, you will need a steering wheel puller and a steering column decompressor, if there is a copressed plate covering the turn signal and key cylinder on your model, to get at the key cylinder - both can be purchased at Pep Boys or another auto parts store where available. Pull the cover off of the center of the steering wheel column it snugs all the way around. Using the proper socket undo the center nut. Use the steering wheel puller and allow it to pull the steering wheel off. Underneath is the horn. There is a wire connector fitted to the cylinder. Carefully unplug it. then unscrew the two screws and remove the key cylinder. Reverse directions for installation except where the steering wheel puller was used pull real hard instead. Again, this answer is not for a 1994 and under Jeep Cherokee so make sure you get the correct info as there are different types, at least three I know of.
