In order to access the 3 nuts to remove the mirror from the door frame, you must first remove the door trim panel. After your remove the door trim panel, disconnect the mirror wiring harness at the unplugging the harness located in the opening near the side view mirror. Remove the 3 nuts attaching the mirror to the door frame. Pull the mirror out from the outside of the vehicle being carefull not to scratch the vehicle finsish with the studs on the mirror. Reverse to install the new mirror onto the door.

FIVE STEPS AND YOUR DONE

I just had to replace my Driver side Mirror, I found it to be very easy here are the steps Approximate time: 15 minutes.

Step 1: loosen two screws you will find one in the hand rest area where you pull the door closed.

Step 2: take out the screw at the inside door handle.

now take a regular/ Flat head screw driver and slide it between the panel and the door find where the plastic pop plugs are get as close to the plugs as you can then pry the panel off the door, you should only have to do this around the front side of the panel.

Step 3: un-plug the electric connector for the mirror.

Step 4: Remove the nuts that attach the mirror to the door this will call for a 10MM driver socket and there will only be 3 nuts to remove.

Step 5 install new mirror in reverse order from above directions.

this took me 15 minutes to do from start to finish it is an easy job even for the beginner.

First, you will have to loosen the inside door panel to access the Phillips-head screw that holds the plastic trim piece behind the mirror.

If you have manual remote mirrors, you will also have to remove the tiny set screw that holds the adjuster in place.

Once the plastic trim piece is removed, you will find three Torx screws (T-30?) which hold the mirror to the door.

You may want to change out both of your 1989 mirrors for a set of 1997-2001 mirrors from a junkyard. They are larger, look better, are more aerodynamic and most of all, are a direct bolt-on fit.

If you don't already have manual or electric remote mirrors, you can do that upgrade at the same time!

We have replacement auto mirror glass available for your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Depending on which side you need they start at $19.99 and the shipping is free. The mounting depends on exactly what is broken, if it is just the glass and not the backingplate the mirror glass kit comes with adhesive tabs to mount the glass. Thanks Jack

Lets start on the drivers side mirror, at the front inside there is a triangle trim piece in the middle there is a round cap, remove that cap and under it there is a screw remove the screw set the screw, trim piece and cap on the dash under that you should see some sound deadening foam gently peel it away being careful not to drop it, in the frame there are 3 nuts I think they are either 8 or 10 mm I can't remember. If these are electric or heated mirrors you will need to do the next step. You will want to remove the drivers side door panel there are 2 screws, one in the door handle arm rest and the other is in the recess below the door handle, remove those screws take and gently pry the door panel off and let it hang gently, follow the wire coming down from the mirror and unplug it, Now going back up to the mirror remove the 3 nuts holding it in place being careful not to drop them in the door, once removed the mirror comes right off from the outside pull the wire through. Removal of the passenger side mirror is the same as the drivers side. Replacement is exactly Opposite of removal.
