How do you replace the serpentine belt on a 1998 Plymouth Voyager?

• The 3.3L & 3.8L engines are driven by single serpentine belt. The belt tension is maintained by an automatic tensioner. The belt operates the alternator, water pump, air conditioner and Power Steering.

1. Raise the front of the vehicle and safely support it with jack stands. This is not essential but makes it easier to remove the splash shield in the next step.
2. Remove the right front splash shield.
3. Use an open end wrench to rotate the bolt clockwise on the tensioner which releases the tension on the belt. A socket will be too long and the socket wrench will bear against the wheel well preventing adequate rotation. The belt routing diagram is located on the care frame near the front of the hood on the passenger side.
4. Remove the belt and install a replacement.
5. Proper belt tension is maintain by dynamic tension
6. Reinstall the right front splash shield then lower the front of the vehicle.

Note: It is best and saves time to use a serpentine belt tool kit . It costs about $30.00.
