How do you replace the starter on a 1992 Cadillac CTS?In: Cadillac CTS |
[Edit] |
Answer
You remove the ground cable from the battery to start with . your starter should be on left side in front of the eng. so you jack up the left side and use a jack stand . You look up underneath the eng. and it is right there . It is ackward when you look at it .
From the solenoid remove the cable and the small wire . There is a small flexplate cover remove it and the 2 bolds holding the starter in place . If equipt . with one there is a starter bracket with a bolt screwed to the motor block , remove it before you remove the 2 bolts that hold the starter in place . Between the starter and the eng. Block there will be shims . Once you take the 2 bolts out and you lower the starter you see the shims , you know than when you install another starter make sure you put them back in when you re-install your starter . You will have new ones in the new starter box dont install them . Replace them with old ones if you like but only install same thickness amount of shims that you removed from car . Re-install the starter same way you removed it .
I like to make a suggestion , most AUTO SUPPLY STORES auto zone for one have repair MANUALS for sale , invest in one it will tell you step by step on how plus literaly everyting else how to trouble shoot and replace parts . GOOD LUCK .
