There are many suppliers of Convertible tops that you can find via the internet. Costs vary depending on how fancy you want to get from perhaps $200 to as high as $600 for the materials.
Installing a Convertible top is not a trivial endeavor. you have basically three options:
1) Do it yourself. It can be done by the avaerage shade tree mechanic but it is a painstaking process to get it just right and if you have never done it you may be biting off more than you bargained for.
2) An Auto Upolstery and Top shop - Most times you can find an Auto Upholstery and Top shop that will do it for you. The good part of that is they will do it for you, it will probably come out right the first time and it will likely come with a warranty- if it isn't right you can make them totally redo it. All that comes at a price. Remember to check the BBB and see if they have references
3) An Independent installer- This will save you $$ over a typical Auto Top shop. To find someone ask some local body shops if they have someone who does tops. If a repair/ restoration place or an autobody shop is willing to recommend someone they are probably OK.Good luck!
One can find parts for a Pontiac convertible in a branch of an engineer. However, one can also find parts on the internet and especially on convertibletopguys.
Timing belt replacement is a pretty big job. I'd go to the parts store and pick up a Chilton or Haynes manual.
I am curious as to why you didn't call up a parts store in your area and ask them?
Yes. It is called a Vehicle Repair Manual available at any Auto Parts store for anywhere from $11.00-$20.00. Chilton or Haynes.
Either from the dealer or a parts yard
In a Chiltons automotive book for the sunbird which I believe is the same for the cavalier for the same year. You could either buy one from an auto parts store for about $20-$30 or check one out from a public library if they stock it, (they should).
Hey David==This is an involved procedure requiring many spedial fixtures and tools. If you want to tackle it get a shop manual from the parts store and get after it. Goodluck Joe
Hey Brad==This is an involved procedure. Get a manual on your car from the parts store and it will have pictures and everything. GoodluckJoe Replacing the head gasket on any vehicle is a long and complicated process, however if you wish to see basic step-by-step instructions go to the related question on the right side of the page "How do you replace a head gasket?"
The only part that is needed to replace your 1997 Pontiac rear brakes is a break assembly kit. The brake assembly kit will have everything you need.
You can't. You need to replace the faulty and worn parts.
In most cases, yes. The Sunbird did use a 1.8 engine for a few years while the Cavalier used a 2.0. What years and parts are you wanting to compare?
No. You may want to buy a book though on how to do it. A car parts store will have repair manuals for about $16.00. You can also check out the Public Library for info.
