How do you replace the water pump on a 1988 saab 900s non turbo?

Answer

Remove Power steering, and A/C belts.

Move the A/C compressor out of the way if you have this.

While Alt/water pump belts are still tight, try to loosen the bolts on the water pump pulley. If the pulley moves, you may need to jam a screwdriver in there to hold it.

Loosen the belts, unbolt the alternator if you do not have enough access and remove. Getting the alternator out is usually tricky and involves unbolting the main bracket as well.

Unbolt the water pump, clean gasket surfaces, install new gasket, install new pump.

Put everything back.
