what does a bcm in a 2000 cavalier control
This is unwise, an engine that is not near 195 degrees is not running efficiently. The ECM and BCM control the fan.

The best thing to do is to buy a BCM from the GM dealer and he will programme it for your specific vehicle, in your case a 2001 cavalier. I have the exact car, same year and I also need a new BCM. I'm picking one up at my local GM dealership for about $240Can. that includes the BCM and the programming. Hope this helped, and good luck.

how to use bcm to reset change oil light
The location of the BCM on a '97 Cavalier can vary based on the model. Many of them are just left of the hedge pillar and below the instrument panel. Some are above the instrument panel.
This one works on my 2007 Chevy... Don't know if it will work on a 2000. Put key in ignition and turn to RUN, (Don't Start it) Press both Brake and Gas pedals (keep them there) Run the Shifter from Park to 1st (L) and back 5 times Turn key to off and remove. Release Gas and Brake Start the Vehicle. BCM should be reset.
You don't. This is regulated by the BCM.
No, this is controlled by the BCM. An easy remedy is to take a 1/32" drill bit and drill into the gauge cluster into the light if it annoys you that much.
turn the ignition key on
unplug the battery for 15- 20 mins it should reset it i think
