By hard reset do you mean like completely wipe it back to how you first bought it. Plug it into iTunes then select your iPod on left list bar. There should be a restore or resest button on screen.

if your iPod is frozen. Have your iPod unpluged from PC and hold centre button and menu button for ten seconds till apple icon appears on screen. Then plug into itunes and restore, your stuff should still be on it. Then to wipe clean try the first thing i sugested.

If none of these are working the apple site says to reset plug and unplug iPod in to itunes 6 times.

OK When the ipod is plugged in simply click on the thing on the side that has your ipod on it the go to summary then click restore OK Hope this helps :)
