The check engine light codes have to be read and removed with a scanner on anything after '96.Auto Zone will do it free.GoodluckJoe To reset the "check engine" light, simply disconnect the battery for a moment and it will go out. This worked for me on my 98 Ranger. try checking the co2 sensor. A sure fire method, if you can access the fault codes, is to remove the jumper wire while the codes are displaying. Pull the codes from the computer, match the code to the troubleshooting procedure, follow the procedure to find the source. Repair the source, light will go out if that was the only problem. There are "monitors" or self tests the computer runs the car through a drive cycle, if a problem occurs, it may not run all of the self tests until that problem is taken care. Therefore, another problem may exist. It is emission related. OR hook up a scanner that is capable of clearing codes, and hope that none are still active. Disconnect the battery for fifteen seconds.
There is no reset switch ... it's a warranty/mileage item in the memory module. When the light comes on, instead of taking the vehicle in for service, try diconnecting the battery for about five (5) minutes before reconnecting it.The light should go out. If it doesn't, then a technician needs to check your system. I've had to reset the light on my 2000 Grand Marquis 3 or 4 times already.
Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
You do not have to reset the computer after this repair. If the Check Engine Light is on it is not because you made this repair. If you disconnected the battery the computer will reset itself.

Should be able to reset it by disconnecting the negative battery cable from the battery for ten minutes.
Take it to Autozone (or your local parts store) and they will connect the scan tool to your truck, then you will press reset.
No there is not a reset button. You can try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and that may reset the check engine light. If not it will have to be reset with an OBD2 scanner. Remember if you do not repair the problem that caused the light to come on you are wasting your time resetting it as it will just come back on.
