How do you safely remove a broken windshield?

Answer:

Use an old flat wound guitar string - work it around edge of glass with a knife blade, or somesuch - then with a guy inside, and a guy outside the car - use it as you would a two man saw - sawing the glass away from the rubber gasket. Might use duct tape over the broken parts (in & outside) to keep glass from going everywhere - can also use sticky shelf paper.
