Putting together an organized grocery list before making the trip to the store is essential. Otherwise you'll be more prone to impulse shopping leading to overspending.

You can also save by looking at the store's circular which advertises the day's sales.

Also, don't forget to be on the lookout for the manager special sales throughout the store.

The key is manufacturer coupons, store coupons and sales. You should be able to feed a family of four on $400 per month.

Buying as many of your regular products in bulk is another great way to save at the checkout, it costs more at the time, but you get a lot more for the money and it will not need to be replenished on your next shopping trip.

Only buy what is essential for that week/write out a shopping list, and stick to it.

Look for the weekly ads for at least two grocery stores in your area such as for the Winn Dixie and Publix weekly ad. These ads for grocery stores can be found on the official store web sites and they usually offer you an opportunity to pick out items and build a shopping list.

Starting with the buy one get one free offers, start picking items you will use. do not pick food items just to save money, only buy what you will actually use and consume. Once your done with the BOGO offers, go back to the first page and choose other items.

I use this method and routinely save $50-$75 off my grocery bill every two weeks without even having to use coupons.

The best way to save money on food shopping is to plan out your meals ahead of time and make a shopping list that you stick to. Avoid impulse shopping and don't shop when you are hungry. Don't buy things in large quantities that will spoil before you can use them.

Shop only during big sales, and stock up! Take advantage of Buy One Get One Free offers or purchase 10 items for $10. Use your discount card, load electronic coupons, or clip coupons and use on double coupon days. It pays to buy in bulk: shop at wholesale stores like Sam’s Club and Costco. The membership fees will pay for themselves in just a couple of trips.

Plan meals ahead for a week or two: make a list and stick to it. Most of us have been guilty, from time to time, of making the mistake of going to the grocery store hungry, and coming home with a load of groceries that it mostly junk food, does not make sense in terms of meal preparation, and cost far too much for our monthly budget. If you have a good idea of what you will spend, and what items you need to stock your pantry for the upcoming days, you will naturally spend less. It is a good idea to reward oneself with one treat. Especially if you have young children who accompany you to the grocery store, the promise of one treat at a predetermined price will help prevent overspending and overloading your cart with unhealthy foods.

Shop the perimeter of the store before the interior lanes: this will save you money and is much healthier! Most grocery stores have a bakery and deli on one end of the store, the produce on the other, and dairy products and meats on the back shelves. The interior aisles are stocked with junk food and food loaded with preservatives. Usually these foods are more expensive, and because they are tempting, can run up your grocery bill. By avoiding the interior lanes altogether, or only going after particular items, you will limit unnecessary spending.

Use cash only, so you will not exceed your budget. As you add items to your cart, add up the prices, either mentally or with a calculator. If you bring $100 cash to the store and leave the debit card at home, you will be very, very careful not to exceed your limit, as it would be very embarrassing to get caught short in the pay line.

Change your mindset about store brands. Instead of automatically picking up the pretty, colorful packaging of the name brand food, train your brain to look for the store brand. The packaging will often not be as attractive as the name brand, but it is important to ask yourself: is it worth paying extra to have a pretty piece of cardboard containing the cereal, or not? Often store brands are just as good as store brands, and always a fraction of the cost.

Being stretched financially is a common modern theme. A common dramatization of this event shows a harried couple sitting around their kitchen table wracking their brains about how to pay the bills. While there are certainly significant bills that impact the overall budget of a home, one of the largest expenses never shows up on the big or little screen. After all, saving on groceries isn't exactly glamorous. However, most families spend more money on groceries than any other expense besides their mortgage; some families even exceed that line item with the money needed to eat on a daily basis. While groceries cost big bucks, they are also an easy expense to cut back on- often significantly.

Coupons and Rebates

Whenever a magazine article or television spot features a big-time coupon shopper, it gets a lot of attention and press time. It's not at all uncommon to see an average modern parent get several hundred dollars worth of groceries for a fraction of the cost. It's important to keep in mind, however, that these shopping trips are usually carefully planned for the cameras. Still, using coupons and rebates can save big on groceries, especially if you understand how the game is played- and it is certainly a game. The smartest coupon shoppers combine manufacturer's coupons with sales and use stores that double or triple coupons. If you don't want to take the time to plan ahead, it might be a better idea to stick with another strategy.

Stock Up

Large families learn the secrets of stocking up out of necessity. For the rest of the average public, it can seem like a bit much. However, buying in bulk can save big, no matter the size of your family. Bulk buying for small to average families works best with canned goods, dry goods and other non-perishables. You can also stock up on household goods such as toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper and other items. When you find a good price, buy as much as you can afford and store it; this adds up to big savings at the grocery store.

Cut Back

Of course, most savings experts use strategies that either help you get what you want for less or help you use less of what you need. Using less of the most expensive groceries will cut that grocery bill noticeably. Instead of eating an entire pot roast, for example, make meals where expensive meat isn't the main ingredient. You can also make a pot roast with planned leftovers, further stretching your hard-earned dollars. Processed foods are also great candidates for cutting back; they have little nutritional value and can cost much more than healthier fare.

If you are the primary shopper when it comes to groceries for your home, you may be familiar with the high prices associated with certain foods. Unfortunately, many people spend a lot of money on these types of things and will often go into debt because of what they have purchased. If you are experiencing this, you may want to know about coupons and how they can help you save hundreds of dollars each year. When many people think about couponing, they often think about weird people who just clog up the lines at the grocery store. Thankfully, using coupons is now easier and more worthwhile than ever before. You will not have to worry about looking strange since the only thing you will notice is that you are able to save a lot of extra cash.

Before anything else, it is imperative that you learn where you can get some coupons for yourself before you go grocery shopping next. You can either check online coupon websites or your weekly newspaper. Many people have found that contacting the actual manufacturers by email is also a great way to receive some savings by mail. No matter where you get the coupons from, it is essential that they are valid and can be used wherever the product is sold. Be sure to keep tabs on your coupons and throw away any that are expired.

Once you go grocery shopping, you will notice almost immediately the amount of money you are able to save by just using coupons while at the checkout counter. In fact, it is a good idea to keep your coupons organized in their very own folder so that you can be sure you are making the most of your savings. As stated before, you should toss out any coupon that happens to be past its expiration date. The first time you use coupons you may feel a bit weird at the checkout counter. But once you begin to use them every time you go grocery shopping, you will notice that coupons are simply a genius way to save money on items that you normally buy on a regular basis.

With the cost of food skyrocketing, consumers everywhere are searching for ways to save money at the grocery store. How can you get the biggest bang for your buck? Here are five simple tricks that can help ease the pain at the cash register.

Plan Meals

Having a meal plan for the week can drastically reduce wasteful and excessive spending at the grocery store. Sit down with an ad of your local store's deals for the week, and plan meals around what is on sale. Don't make the mistake of only planning out dinners; you should do the same for breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.

Buy Only What You Will Use

Often, consumers are lured into buying greater amounts than what they need, simply because the larger quantity is offered at a great deal. After all, it seems silly to buy a smaller amount of a product when you can get twice as much for only a dollar or two more. However, unless you are going to use the extra product, buying more than you need usually ends with your extra portions ending up in the trash can. Ultimately, you will throw away more and spend more. Stick only with what you intend to use.

Clip Coupons - But Only For What You Need

Coupons are a great way to save money, but using them incorrectly can cost you. Only cut out coupons for products that you use. Clipping out coupons for products you do not normally buy will only lead to extra, unneeded items in your cart and a larger grocery bill at checkout.

Shop With a Friend

If you want to fully capitalize on a warehouse store, but are unable to use all the products because they come in such large quantities, ask a friend to shop with you. You can both decide on what you need and split the products. For extra savings, share the membership with the same friend - this way you are not wasting money on separate memberships.

Buy Generic

Some items are better if you buy the name brand, but most generic branded products, especially frozen or canned vegetables, cereal, and dairy can be considerably cheaper than name brand. Chances are that you and your family will not be able to tell much of a difference, and while your tastebuds may not know you bought cheaper, your wallet certainly will. And don't be fooled: most store brand items are made by the name brand companies; they just change the labels.

Following these simple tricks can save you big money. Just remember, no matter how good a deal may seem, if you don't need it, don't buy it.

One way is buying generic products, another is to shop around by looking at flyers. You will find deals on things you buy regularly and you may also find a new place to shop.
