Best Answer

to say what is your name in mandarin, you say,

"ni jiao shen me ming zi"

which is said like "knee jaow shen ma ming z"

(not said like "zee" or "zed" but the sound "z")

in shanghai alone, there are twice as many people as there are in the WHOLE of Australia!

yes i agree on the z part not "zee" or "zed but "z"

你叫什么名字?

ni jiao shen me ming zih?

Pronounced:

Nee, Jawe shen na ming zoo!

You could say: Ni Hao (Hello)

Ni jiao .......... (My name is .......)

Ni jiao shen me ming zih? ( What is your name?)

Edit: Agree with most of the above, but adding "ming zih" to "Ni jiao shenme" is unnecessary, and extremely formal.

"What is your name?" in Traditional Chinese is "你叫什麼名字?" In Simplified Chinese it's "你叫什么名字." In Hanyu Pinyin, this is pronounced "Ni3 jiao4 shen2me ming2zi4?" In Gwoyeu Romatzyh it's pronounced "Nii jiaw sherm.me mingtzyh?" Here's a breakdown:

你 - You

叫 - are called, to be called, to call

什麼 - what

名字 - name
