Iodine is well known to sublime (change from solid to gas without becoming liquid inbetween) when heated. However sodium chloride has a melting point much higher than that of iodine. Therefore, a mixture of iodine and sodium chloride can be separated by using a sublimation apparatus, with solid iodine collected by condensation on a cold surface.

How do you obtain iodine from a mixture of sodium chloride and iodine?

Iodine is not soluble in water but soluble in organic solvents; sodium chloride is soluble in water. Method 1: dissolving of the mixture in water, filtering, washing of the filter, recovery of iodine from the filter Method 2: dissolving of the mixture in chloroform, filtering, recovery of iodine from the solution by air evaporation at room temperature

How do you separate a mixture of iodine and ammonium chloride?

First add water to mixture the ammonium chloride will dissolve in the water but the iodine does not. Filter out the iodine using filtration then use evaporation or distillation to obtain the ammonium chloride.

How do you separate iodine and sodium iodide?

If your talking about separating a mixture of Iodine and salt (Sodium Chloride) then to separate them the easiest way would be to mix the mixture in water which will cause the sodium chloride to dissolve (along with a very small amount of iodine), then you just pour off the water and viola, your iodine is left at the bottom. Repeat this process again to make sure you get rid of all the sodium chlorideNote: ~37.5 grams of sodium chloride will dissolve in 100mL of water at room temperature ~21 degrees Celsius. So you may need to repeat the process depending on how much salt is mixed with the iodine.Note: the iodine may form a suspension in the water, if this is the case allow it to sit for a while to form the sediment at the bottom, if it doesn't you can use filter paper when you pour out the water.

Which method could be used to obtain copper from a mixture of powdered copper and sodium chloride?

Wash the mixture with water and separate the solid from the liquid, for example, by filtration. The sodium chloride will dissolve in the wash water, while the copper is left behind.

How do you separate iodine from sodium chloride?

Iodine is not contained in Sodium Chloride, so can not be removed from it. I am thinking you wish to separate a mixture of Iodine and Sodium Chloride. Heat the mixture to 114C and the iodine will melt. Iodine can be vaporized and distilled. Under certain conditions, Iodine can react with other chemicals to create unstable explosive compounds. So be careful out there.
