How do you remove coconut from the shell?

Some people say that if you heat it (once it has been cracked open) the meet comes away.
In some countries people use a wooden chisel stuck in the ground or a stool with a metal blade to grate the coconut out of the shell.
I believe that it is also possible to purchase coconut graters - the link below gives an example.


I found once draining the coconut and cracking it open its very easy to remove the flesh by boiling it for about 5-10 minutes then running it under some cold water and letting it sit for another 5-10 minutes. The softer flesh shrinks back to its original shape quicker than the harder shell and you can very easily slip in a knife or a spoon and pull the whole flesh out in one go. It takes much less effort and generally can be quicker and due to the bigger piece its a lot easier to grate to. It does not affect the taste nor texture which is a good thing to!.
This is especially good if you plan to make DIY coconut shell caves for aquariums very quick and they look great. Just make sure to boil it repeatedly until the water becomes clear.

To get the coconut meat out of the shell with out breaking the shell cut a small hole in soft eye of the coconut. Then use a small spoon to get the meat out. A solution of sodium carbonate can be used to dissolve the meat if it is not needed.

Boil the coconut milk until a solid sustance forming and it turns into yellowish colour. Don't let that substance become black.
