There is a notch in the distributor housing. It can only go one way.
Reuse your old 305 distributor.
turn the distributor
There in no right answer. It really can be any post just depends on how the distributor was dropped in. I set mine up to 1 is right after the 3 wires that plug into the cap

be it a 4,6,or8 cylinder....be sure you have the crank on TDC, top dead center, install the distributor so that the rotor is pointing to #1 cylinder on the cap
with a timing light, assuming this is an older engine that still uses a distributor.
Chevrolet s10 v6 2.8 liter pickup timing degree, how to set the degree
Yes. Unhook and plug the hose going to the distributor, set the timing to factory specs, then replace the hose.
You can't set the timing but you can either advance or retard it from the distributor.
you don't as there is no such thing or procedure.
I would set it at 10 BTDC with the distributor vaccum unhooked while setting timing. 10 to 13 degrees is what the factory recomends.
Timing chain jumped? distributor cap is cracked or igniition wire are mix up
