The technique changes with the slide you want to do but a basic idea would be to carve hard into the opposite direction of your slide then carve even harder back towards the way you want to slide. Once you carve back you need to take some weight off the back foot and basically push out your back foot against the rail of the board. You hold the pressure on the rail until you feel like hooking back up. This takes some practice and you definitely will fall so wear a helmet and maybe a few pads.
