What can i use to soften up a leather jacket besides mink oil?

Rubbing olive oil on your leather jacket can help make it soft and moisturized. But make sure to use cotton or a soft piece of cloth for this purpose. Try to test it on a small patch before applying it to the entire jacket. Leave it overnight and you’ll get rid of that uncomfortable stiffness in your jacket. After dry cleaning it once every 2 months, make sure to treat it with good quality leather conditioner and moisturizer as it can make the leather soft and help you get rid of the stiffness.

How do you move the buckle on your duty belt it's new and leather?

New leather gear is stiff and squeaky. It will soften with wear, but it takes a long time. You can try rubbing in mink oil or some other leather dressing to soften it up. Sometimes it will soften a bit if it's damp--not wet. In the short run, you can force the end through the buckle with pliers, but be careful not to mark the exposed portions. Some rubber tubing places over the ribbed portions of the plier jaws will help protect the leather.

Does heat damage leather?

I dont think so because I have been using it to heat my leather event riding boots which cost thousands and if anything it is making them softer. Heat e.g. steam will open up pores in leather and soften it up so I dont think a bit of heat will damage it I know leather cannot be set on fire so unless it is excessive radiator heat then I dont think it can :)

How do you srink stretched leather?

Soak leather in water for at least 2 hours. Then place the leather out in a hot area such as by a furnace, fire place, or outside on a sunny day. You may also hairdry the leather to speed up the process. If the leather has to be a certain size check on the leather every 30 mintues to see if it has shrunk enough. When its the correct size keep it in that form and wait till its dry. For example it you were srinking the straps on flip-flops take them from the heat and put them on your feet till their dry.

Do dry leather gloves have electrical resistance?

Yes, dry leather has an electrical resistance of around 100kOhm, enough to protect from residential voltage, but much less than what you would want for distribution voltage. However, the resistance of leather falls dramatically (up to 95%) when damp, so rubber gloves are always required when working around high voltage.
