You hit them hard. Warning: DO NOT spank a child unless you have a reason/

Only suitable for minors?:

People used to think it was necessary to "spank" adult members of the community, military trainees, and prisoners. In some countries they still do. In our country, it is considered assault and battery if a person over the age of 18 is "spanked", but only if over the age of 18.

Child bottom-slapping/battering vs. DISCIPLINE:

Child bottom-slapping/battering (euphemistically labeled "spanking","swatting","switching","smacking", "paddling",or other cute-sounding names) for the purpose of gaining compliance is nothing more than an inherited bad habit.

Its a good idea for people to take a look at what they are doing, and learn how to DISCIPLINE instead of hit.

I think the reason why television shows like "Supernanny" and "Dr. Phil" are so popular is because that is precisely what many (not all) people are trying to do.

There are several reasons why child bottom-slapping isn't a good idea. Here are some good, quick reads recommended by professionals:

NO VITAL ORGANS THERE, So They Say

Just a handful of those helping to raise awareness of why child bottom-slapping isn't a good idea:

American Academy of Pediatrics,

American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,

American Psychological Association,

Center For Effective Discipline,

Churches' Network For Non-Violence,

Nobel Peace Prize recipient Archbishop Desmond Tutu,

Parenting In Jesus' Footsteps,

Global Initiative To End All Corporal Punishment of Children,

United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child.

In 31 nations, child corporal punishment is prohibited by law (with more in process). In fact, the US was the only UN member that did not ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The US also has the highest incarceration rate in the world.

The US states with the highest crime rates and the poorest academic performance are also the ones with the highest rates of child corporal punishment.

There is simply no evidence to suggest that child bottom-battering instills virtue.

Why would you want to? If you are an adult asking that question then you shouldn't be doing that. It could really hurt the kid. Crying is really bad for people.

But if you were to spank somebody, then you should do it with an open hand spanking thier clothed butt. NEVER use a closed fist - slap them across the face - punch them in the abdomen - or use a belt or any other typoe of striking device.

This question has attracted some extremely inappropriate answers. If you are unsure about the proper way to discipline your child then you should discuss it with your child's pediatrician or enroll in a parenting class.

Explain to the child the reason why the spanking is necessary. Then bare their bottom, turn them over your lap, and spank them for as long (in minutes) as they are old. Example: a 2 year old would get 2 minutes of swats.

First of all, you actually have to have a good reason to spank you kid. Explain to why you are going to spank them and you have to be sure the reason is good. After you do so, bare their bottom and lay them down somewhere, on you lap on someplace like your sofa or bed. You can use you hand, a belt, a wooden spoon, etc. and spank them for as long as they are old.(that will be in minutes, not in seconds or hours). E.g. a 5 year old would get five minutes of spanks

Should you give your child a nude spank?

I am a firm believer of spanking, look at kids nowadays. Our children now are the result of not being punished correctly for their actions. They say spanking is "abusing". So for you to spank your child, be prepared for welfare to come in and investigate if your child goes to school and tells on you. A nude spank? No.
