A number of countries have imported their royal families. Bohemia once did, and in more recent times Sweden, Norway, Bulgaria and Greece did. A nation whose royal family has died out, or who doesn't have a monarchy, but wants to start one, will sound out members of royal families in other countries to see which any of them would make a suitable sovereign. Usually a young prince has been found who agrees to take the job. King George I (1845 - 1913) King of Greece was born Prince Christian Wilhelm Ferdinand Adolf Georg of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, and was usually called Prince Wilhelm. He born in Copenhagen, Denmark, a younger son of Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, whose family was of the Danish nobility with links to the Danish royal family. Having recently overthrown their own king, the Greek people wanted a new king who could unite them and provide closer ties to other powerful European nations. Prince Wilhelm of Denmark was chosen as their candidate, and was crowned king of Greece in 1863. King George married the Archduchess Olga Constantinovna of Russia and they had eight children. One of their children, Prince Andrew of Greece, became the father of Prince Philip of Greece, and Philip later became duke of Edinburgh and married Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom.
