To stop a nosebleed pinch nose below the bridge with a soft towel. TIP HEAD FROWARD NOT BACKWARDS. if you tip backwards blood runs down your throat in to you stomach which is bad for your tummy. If it doesn't stop within 45 minutes get medical attention.

I have nosebleeds all the time when the weather gets colder, but they've eased up recently. It's probably been a few months since my last one, but I have too say I'm pretty experienced in controlling them. If they are short, a simple tissue will work with your head tilted back squeezing the bridge of your nose. If you are really having a hard time controlling them and you don't mind spending some money and looking like a dork, http://www.medco-athletics.com/Supply/Product.asp?Leaf_Id=32260 sells "nosebleed plugs" which you might have used if you got a nosebleed playing a sport. I've never bought these so you might want to read some customer reviews before purchasing.

Remain standing, or sitting, don't lie down. Pinch nose, fairly high up. About where a pair of glasses would rest. Maintain grip and tilt head backwards for several minutes. Check a clock, it'll feel like ages. If it's still bleeding after 5-10 minutes, see a doctor.
