How do you stop an unknown application is trying to change your default search engine?

It works for me too. Thanks for this helpful advise.This pop-up has been boggin me for a week now... and suddenly it's gone... . It pops up whenever you open a new browser window and I always choose to "keep my default search engine. " I don't know what I did to make it go away but here's what I did. 1) I set up my default homepage to Google.com that's what I really want as my homepage >>>>>>>>> problem did not go away 2) I downloaded AVG Anti spyware free >>>>>>>>> problem did not go away 3) I downloaded UniBlue Antispyware, Registry Booster, and SpeedUpMyPC >>>>>>>>> problem did not go away After trying all this I finally gave up, and decided to do a stupid thing. . . when it popped up agen instead of choosing to "keep my current search engine" I chose the other option... if forgot how the exact words for the option but it's the other option that asks you to "choose the unknown application as your search engine" and guess what? >>>>>>>>> PROBLEM WENT AWAY So there it turned out that the stupidest thing to do turned out to be the smartest thing to do....

I don't know if it will work for others but you can try it :) I tried the same, I chose the "Unknown Application" option and it worked. Then I started thinking " I wonder if only the "Command" was still embedded but without a follow up action"? Why? For the sole purpose of freaking out God only knows how many people. If so, it worked because I was at the point of reformatting and starting from scratch. THANKS! You save me for performing unnecessary work and the knot in my stomach is gone.
