By legalizing drugs
________
The reason for drug trafficking is because there is so much money to be made from it that nothing else can compare. The source of the problem is not Colombia or Mexico it is the low life trash drug users that this country produces by the millions. If periodic drug tests were performed on everyone who wants to get a driver's license or everyone that applies for any job, and then deny them the jobs or the driver's licenses if they show drug use, this drug problem would stop quickly. But then that would cause American politicians to lose millions of dollars in drug money that they have been receiving for many years.
NOT BY LEGALIZING DRUGS. If the federal government legalized drugs and you were able to buy them just anywhere at a store, pharmacy wherever, taxes on them would be imposed and just like anything else you buy in a store, prices go up. Drug mules and cartels wouldn't stop transporting drugs into the US, would you rather buy an ounce of weed from a guy selling it on the street, with no tax, and for half the price you'd pay in a store? Or would you buy it in the store with tax and probably double you'd pay from a dealer? That's an easy answer. Cartels aren't going to stop trafficking just because it legal here. They would still make their money and the drug problem would only be worse, along with all the problems that accompany it. Theft to support habits, suicides, even murders. The best way to stop trafficking is to impose harsher penalties for users and dealers, so that its not a slap on the wrist or probation for a drug offense. The best way to curtail crime is to make people afraid to commit the offense in the first place.
