How do you switch to your spouse's health insurance? |
Answer
if you are recently married (within 31 days) your spouse needs to fill out an enrollment form. Your coverage will be retroactive to your wedding date.
If you are not recently married, you must wait until your spouses' company has their open enrollment period. (usually in Novemember)

Assuming it is an employer plan, check with the benefits adminstrator to see if your losing your job is a 'qualifying event'. If it is you can sign up immediately. If not, you will have to wait until open enrollment which can be any month of the year depending on the plan anniversary.
