What is the proper care for newborn dwarf hamsters that do not have a mother?

Call local pet shops and see if they have a hamster of the same breed that has recently given birth. Rub the baby in same of the bedding from the new mothers sawdust so it smells the same as one of her own pups. If she is fooled into thinking it is one of her own she will care for it. But, this is risky. There is a slight chance she will not accept them and kill it instead.

The mom will feed them at first and you will know when they want hamster food they will come out of the nest and start taking food.

∙ 14y agodon't take care of it. just watch it, if you disturb your adult female hamster it may eat its babies. and if you think your hamster is about to have babies, wash the cage well because you can't wash the cage while the babies are inside. P.S. Xtra in4mation. Seperate the male and the female adults in different cages. the male may eat them

∙ 13y agoYou can take care of the babies if you have alot of experience or you can call a shelter and they will take care of everything....trust me.The shelter might be easier because more than one hamster is complicated to handle,but babies are tougher.Hope this helps!

∙ 8y agoYou should ask your vet or if there is not a vet around you can see if your pet store has any animal powder milk and also you should get some baby electro lights use q-tips to help the guts be for the hamster eats and use a heat pad and have a fish tank and but the heating pad under the bed but go to nonspecific.com for further help I know what to do but it might get a bit long

∙ 11y agoYou can't.Call a vet or a hamsterbreeder.Baaby hamsters need warmth,breast milk,and other things that you can't provide.Fostering,when you give the pups to a mother whos babies just died is good idea that hobbiests often use.
