First, find the ideal location, which is preferably the northern side of the house. The northern side of any home is cooler and has mostly shade for the rest of the day. Potted ferns need soil that drains well, but can also retain moisture. Make sure the soil never gets dry.

Boston ferns LOVE humidity. Mist it every day, and keep the soil damp all the time (but make sure the plant has good drainage). Normal house temperatures are fine, and keep it out of direct sunlight. Part shade to part sun is fine.

I grew up working in a greenhouse. So if it needs a bigger pot, then put soil in and plant your fern. Water it often and make sure it gets plenty of sunlight
