Well, you could always tell this person that you would rather be friends in a sense that you are happy with the friendship and do not want to ruin it if the boyfriend/girlfriend relationship doesn't work out. You can also tell them that you are too busy to date and that you would rather focus, now, on things such as your job or school work, etc. I know this because it's happened to me a lot... :(

If they love you, it is going to hurt. Accept that and just do it, because it would hurt a lot more later than sooner.
