Look at the 8 TH " character " of your VIN code : The information listed below applies from 1997 to 2003 F150 " W " - 4.6 L SOHC / Romeo / 97 + 98 are MFI , 1999 and newer are SEFI " 6 " - 4.6 L SOHC / Windsor / 97 + 98 are MFI , 1999 and newer are SEFI I got this information right off a Ford information sheet on how to interpret VIN codes So, I learned something new today , I would have assumed that the " W " code meant the Windsor on the 4.6 L -that would make too much sense !

In a Ford Mustang GT : Assuming it is still the same engine as the factory put in : Look at the 8th " character " of the VIN " X " is the 4.6 liter SOHC , Windsor engine " W " is the Romeo ( it seems backwards to me but that's the way Ford has it )

I was looking at the 2004 Ford F-150 Owner Guide and it shows that there is a label on one of the valve covers ( it doesn't tell you which valve cover ) If you have the 4.6 that was manufactured in the Romeo Michigan engine plant the label will show ( " REP " and uses the Motorcraft FL-820-S engine oil filter ) If you have the 4.6 that was manufactured in Windsor , Ontario , Canada the label will show ( " Ford Windsor and uses the Motorcraft FL-400-S engine oil filter ) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Also , if you look at the 8th " character " of the VIN : " W " means that the engine was manufactured in Romeo , Michigan and " 6 " means that the engine was manufactured in Windsor , Ontario ( it seems backwards to me but that's the way Ford has it )
