This is a very interesting question. Usually, people never like to hear that their pet had died, and I have never really answered a question like this so I decided to give it a whirl.
For one, if the animal is old for its type of breed then that could be a reason. You could simply say: " I'm very sorry (sir;mam) but your (dog,cat,reptile,etc) has died, I am dearly sorry and I will do anything to fix it.
Like I said I have never answered a question like this so my apologies if this wasn't a answer that you wanted.
