I think this stems from mob mentality, where one aggresive person motivates his peers by persuation, body language, verbal abuse, coersion, pitting one against the other, brainwashing to bring everyone on the same wavelength, to name a few. If one is inundated with one or more of any of these techniques, and has low self esteem or fear of any kind to start with, aggression is a natural result.
