Tie-dye uses fiber-reactive dyes, where the color sort of fuses with the actual fiber of the material (why almost all tie-dye you see is on cotton, natural fibers play nice with dye!) This means that if your tie-dyed shirt is already died, and has been heat set -- this is the most important step in dyeing, usually tie-dyed stuff is thrown for a cycle round the drying machine, otherwise it can be ironed -- then you wash normally. Just wash the shirt according to general laundry rules, in cold water, and you'll be fine. If you didn't dye the shirt yourself and are not sure what sort of dye was used, experiment with soaking the shirt or running hot water over it and seeing if the color comes away. If it does, try ironing the shirt with a press cloth (a piece of scrap fabric, usually muslin or white cotton) between the iron and the garment, and the garment and ironing board (otherwise you'll have a lovely tie-dyed ironing board cover!) then putting it in the dryer for a cycle all alone. Hopefully that will heat set the dye if that step was ignored by the dyer. The whole point of dying any article of clothing, espeically with fiber reactive dye, is to fundamentally change the material, so as long as you are careful washing a tie-dyed shirt should not hurt it.
here are the few steps to tiedying a shirt: 1: get WHITE shirt. 2:take rubber bands and wrap them on parts of shirt. 3:dip in food colred water. 4: let dry. The above is right on, but wanted to add, if you want multi-colors then have 3 - 4 different bowls of dye. The dye can be bought in either a Craft Store or some grocery stores in the aisle where the laundry soaps are.
First, get a tie-dye set. You can find them at any craft store.
There should be directions in the kit that tell you how to create nifty designs, but I will inform you of the basic "spray and splatter" method. This is the simples way of tie-dying, involving a t-shirt just being sprayed with tie-dye bottles. Just spray and squirt the bottle of tie-dye like you would a glue bottle onto the t-shirt in any desired pattern. There isn't a right or wrong way, as tie-dying is all about creativity.
OK here are the steps,
1.find a white shirt
2.take hair ties and crunch it all up them
3.take paint (your color choices)
4.put paint in squeezer things...
5.squeeze or splat pant all over the shirt (you can leave white if you want to)
6.take out hair ties
7.hang shirt until dry
8.ENJOY YOUR NEW SHIRT!!
as many years with teedee (if you will) experience ive rarely wondered what would be a possible way to teedee (again if you will) some snazzy canvas sneaks and how to do it first tee.
1st step- wash your sneaks in vinegar
2nd step- pre heat your oven to 450 and place shoes in for 23 seconds
3rd step- take you dye of choice (i for one choose powdered shenanigans)
4th step- while your shoes are still warm dip them in the colour you choose but only the part you want covered. repeat this process 3 times and on different areas with different colours.
5th step- drink some bubble tea and enjoy the tapioka while it lasts.
6th step- jk lol
7th step- wash your shoes with elastics wrapped around them and tied or wrapped around in different patterns.
8th step- enjoy the street cred you will get when you trot down the streets in your snazzy new sneaks.
WARNING- dont try this if you are hearing inpared or pregnant and always where your seat belt.
Get a plain white shirt and use rubber bands and tie it in places dip it in dye take it out and squeeze it take rubber bands off and hang it to dry oh and where gloves of else the dye will stain your hand for like a week
This how-to will teach you how to make a tye-die shirt. The design we will be making will be the basic spiral, which is how most tye-dye shirts are made.
To tie-dye a hat, you will need:
White cotton hat
10 rubber bands
4 or 5 gallon bucket
Red or blue fabric dye
Paint stir stick
Paper towels
Scissors
Step 1: Soak your hat in cold water. Remove from water and wring water out. Empty water from bucket.
Wrap a rubber band tightly around the center of the hat. Place one hand under the hat and poke up a portion of the hat in the center. Tightly wrap a rubber band around the poke so that about one inch of the hat is gathered above band.
Step 2: Repeat on both sides of rubber-banded section, about three inches to the outside and about three inches above the first banded section. Do two more sections about three inches to the outside and about three inches below the center banded section. Poke up a section in the center front of the hat and wrap a rubber band around the section.
The final 4 rubber bands will be used for the cap's brim. Crisscross four rubber bands across the brim of the hat, two from left to right and two from right to left.
Step 3: Wearing rubber gloves, fill bucket with hot water. Add a packet of dye and mix.
Step 4: Put your hat in dye bath (wear rubber gloves when you do this!). Use a paint stick to push down. After 30 minutes, remove hat from dye bath. Blot the hat with paper towels.
Step 5: Run cold water over hat until water runs clear. Cut rubber bands off. Let air dry.

The term "tiedye" refers to a dying technique whereby one knots up fabric before it is dyed in order to produce patterns within the dyed material. It works because if you knot the fabric, the dye cannot reach into the knotted areas of the fabric and tends to produce an un-dyed area in the shape of a starburst pattern on the fabric.
