lie it so the pointed end is next to you and the longest edge is furthest away from you and roll it towards you until you've got a triangle that's about the length of an adult hand. put the triangle behind your neck and put the toggle round the 2 ends that come in front of you!

You do not tie a Boy Scout neckerchief, it is fastened by a slider/woggle, which can come in various designs.

Or you can use a Friendship Knot if you don't have a slider/woggle.
