check the spring on the idler wheel, is there somthing stopping it from moveing ?is it streched out , if not do you have the correct size belt on it ?
it may be streched out of size, if it wont tighten up install a belt 2 inches shorter, some times the springs loose the strech, and wont pull as much

∙ 9y agoMake sure the lawn tractor has the parking brake engaged. Pull the spark plug wire to prevent it from accidentally starting. Unscrew the engine drive belt keeper rod and slide it out of the hole in the frame. Slide the engine drive belt off the pulley. Pull the tie pins out of the support rods and slide the rods out of the cutting deck. Loosen the bolts on the deck belt and pull the belt until it is taut. Tighten the bolts and replace the deck, then replace the other parts in reverse order.

∙ 9y agoMake sure the mower blades are turned off and then adjust the attachment lever to the lowest position. Lift the engine hood and disconnect the spark plug wire. Find the nuts near the center of the lawn mower deck and loosen them. Pull the cable bracket away until there is no slack. Tighten the nuts on the bracket and reattach the spark plug wire.

∙ 14y agoIt is simple! I did this this weekend to mine and thought I was going to blow up! But after figuring out what to do, I think I could do it for a living.
First off take out the battery and the battery box.. Then underneath you will see the drive belt. There are two springs that connect to the back of the mower. Pop those springs out. Then the pulleys will come together. They are Spring Loaded. Then relplace the belts. NOW The fun part. Putting the springs back on! I tried a drill, a pulley system, a screwdriver, and nothing worked. Finally i decided rope. I took a two foot piece of nylon rope tied it to make a circle wrapped on around the hook in the spring and then JERK ONCE AND BOOM YOUR DONE!!!

∙ 10y agoThe Troy-Bilt ride-on mower deck belt it tightened using adjusters on the pulleys that secure the belt. There should be a diagram demonstrating the location of these adjuster on the deck under the left foot pedal.
