Pinyin (拼音) is romanization of Chinese characters. Basically, it spells out the sound of the Chinese word.

To translate from English to Pinyin, you would have to know what you are translating in English, the translation in Chinese, and then the romanization of the Chinese characters.

First you have to look at the Pinyin, if the word has tones than it makes it easier, if it doesn't, well, it's not impossible. Then you want to match up the pinyin to the Chinese characters it could be and finally you can translate those characters to English!
