Take your cat into the vet's and get antibiotics for your cat. Then ask your vet what the best cat food is to stop urinary infection and see if they have a wet food available. You must also ALWAYS have fresh water available for your cat. Water keeps the kidneys clear.

There are several things you can do to increase how much water your cat is intaking. By far the easiest option is to feed a wet food diet. Canned or pouched food has anywhere between 60 to 80% water. Seeing as in the wild a cat's prey is around 70% water, wet food provides a cat with more than enough water each day. You can even add more water to this to make sure your cat is getting enough.

If you feed dry food, it may be ideal to change over to a wet food diet. Dry food contains very little moisture and can exacerbate the problem.

Another way to increase water intake is to leave a tap on or purchase a pet water fountain. Many cats are fickle when it comes to water and will only drink fresh moving water. A running tap or fountain keeps water constantly moving and fresh, and both methods are very successful in enticing a cat to drink more water.

Cats usually contracts urinary infections from not drinking enough water and the urine becomes too concentrated. This can occur if the cat is fed only dry food (a cat has evolved to get moisture from its food and so have a low "thirst drive") or overly stressed. Vets normally give some form of antibiotics to the owner to give to the cat over the course of a week or so to kill off any infection.

However, the most important treatment, aside from the antibiotics, is to increase your cat's water intake. Feeding some (or more) wet food and/or providing a water fountain to entice the cat to drink more water are two very good options.

A vet will most likely prescribe pain relief and antibiotics for a cat with cystitis. This condition, much like human bladder infections, are very painful for the cat.

By far the the most important treatment, aside from vet-prescribed pain killers (and antibiotics if an infection is present), is water. By keeping the cat thoroughly hydrated, the urine is kept from becoming too concentrated, which in turn minimizes the chance of developing cystitis. This is done by increasing your cat's water intake. Feeding wet food instead of dry, adding a little extra water to the wet food and/or providing a water fountain to entice the cat to drink more water are very good options. Even adding "flavoured water" such as juice from canned fish to food or water will help entice a cat to drink.

Also, as cystitis is also thought to be linked to stress, preventing stressful scenarios for your cat will help.

You should NEVER treat an animal without a Vet checking the pet FIRST -- and NEVER treat using the internet (non-trained persons) to tell you how to treat. Besides, the doses used for pets differ from what is used for a cat or dog. So call a Vet. Don't delay; pets can get very ill from UTIs and can even die if they have a urinary blockage. Also, UTIs can cause extreme pain in animals. If you don't get it treated, you could have a kitty running like a madman because the pain has made him / her very afraid; then, the pet is hard to catch and get to a doctor.

Is doxycycline good for a cat bite?

If the cat bite is infected such as inflamed or swelling is present, then you need to take your cat into your Veterinarian. He or she will know the best type of antibiotic to put your cat on. It may have turned into an abscess where it needs to be opened up and flushed out and a penrose drain put in to keep it opened and draining. This type of antibiotic is not one of choice.

An upper respiratory infection in cats is generally caused by a virus, against which an antibiotic would be useless. Therefore, there should not be any antibiotics being prescribed for this unless a secondary bacterial infection was also diagnosed.
