The best way to treat an insect bite of any kind including Mayflies is to first clean the affected area with anti-bacterial soap and cool water, next apply an aspirin such as a plain non-coated Bayer to the area, this reduces pain and swelling. If there is a lot of itching, take an antihistamine.
