If the 'TP' is on there should be two 'TP' logos on your stereo display: one in the top left hand corner, the second just below it.
If you press the FM button, the second one i mentioned should disapear and be replace by 'FM I' or 'FM II', the other will remain to show that the 'TP' signal is being received.
You need to 'exit the TP Mode' but the manual doesn't tell you how - press the 'FM 1-2' while you're on the station and the 'TP' should disappear from the screen (this worked for my VW beta, so hopefully should be good for you) :)
Press the FM button

TO ACQUIRE RADIO SERIAL # AND THEN THE RADIO CODE: turn the car on to accessory mode, but do not start the engine. press and hold the TP button on the radio until you hear it beep...it will take several seconds. Once it beeps, you will be in a menu, and use the right knob (the one you use to tune channels) to scroll through the options until you see the serial number. It will most likely say SERI followed by an 8 digit # like "SERI 00154848". Call your porcsche dealer and speak with the service department. Give them this serial number and they SHOULD be able to give you the code. Sometimes they want to charge you, but i work for a dealership myself, so our porsche dealer knows who i am. It's worth a try though!!

here ya go,You have to press TA & TP together, then the 1000 appears and you enter the code using the 1-4 buttons then press TA & TP again to confirm (it's a BETA 4 radio). If it is the current Beta proceed as follows: 1. Switch on: Display reads "SAFE" 2. Enter code using button "1" to enter the first digit of code, button "2" to enter the second digit etc. 3. When all 4 digits of the code are correctly display, press either the manual setting rocker (>) or the search (>>) button for more than 2 seconds. Then release. 4. The radio should then play. If it does not, press either the "FM" or "CC" button. Hope this helps.AnswerI have a 1997 VW Jetta, I had work done on it and the radio went in to SAFE mode. I accidently entered the wrong code 2 or 3 times and now I can't get it back to BETA mode to enter the code I have. What can I do?AnswerOnce you have your 4 digit code and the radio is set to 1000. You put the code in one at a time until you have entered all of them starting from the first digit 1. My 1998 Volkswagen Jetta Wolfsburg Edition's code is 0986. After I entered the code, I pressed the seek button for at least 2 seconds and the radio immediately began to play. Answer:If your jetta has SEEK/SCAN and buttons, press SEEK with the lower >, 1000 appears, enter your code, press SEEK and > again for about 2 seconds..radio will start playing.I
As I know you have to push 2 button on the same time ( RDS and TA or TP I1m not sure)for 2 or 3 sec. Than appear four line. Now you have to type in the code the following way. if your code is 2356 you have to push the button number 1 twice. After you have to push the button 2 three times and so on. I hope you understand I'm hungarian, and my English not the best . Bye
I have the same problem, I pressed the button ON with the key 6 or TP maintained. The code 1000 is displayed but I only can change the first digit.
I think you hold down the tp button, not 100% though to be honest.
tp many things to think about it
Apparently it has something to do with if your TP button is on for traffic reports and it can't lock a signal to it. Annoying isn't it!!??
The dome light should stay on for about 15 seconds and then go out as a courtesy light. If it stays on all the time you probably need to check the dash and turn it off. Usually the dash light dimmer rotates tp a point that will turn it off.
