with the key in and the car off, press and hold the mileage button for 5 seconds, while still holding the button turn the key to the on position but do not start, hold the button for 10 more seconds, the light should stop blinking, turn the key back off, then start the car and it should be turned off.
You start by pulling the Fuse from under dash relating to the ECU (Look for the Engine Symbol) I think it's No 15??? and then pull the Fuse from the Engine Compartment again looking for the Engine Symbol I know there are prob more than one so look for the one/s that DO NOT have a bolt of lightning going through the symbol this is referring to the Cranking of the Engine (Starter motor e.t.c) leave them both out for approx 30 Secs then put them back in start the engine ENSURING ALL ELECTRICAL ITEMS ARE SWITCHED OFF INC THE RADIO!!!! DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTLE FOR 5 MINS OR UNTILL ENGINE FAN COMES ON THEN GO FOR ABOUT A 2 Mile drive. this resets the ECU but also resets the Air flow Sensor measurements within the ECU itself ( Doing this between seasons can seriously help your Fuel economy!!, its too deep to explain at this time but feel free to ask the question and I will endeavour to answer it)

Here is a link that walks you through turning off the maintenance required light step by step, I'm totally not car knowledgeable and did it on my on in two minutes! http://www.wikihow.com/Turn-off-the-%22Maint-Req%22-Light-on-a-2001-Honda-Civic
It means you need to take it to a service station and have someone to do a diagnostic.
Your owner's manual discusses this very light. The light indicates that regular scheduled maintenance is required. Look in your owner's manual for the description of what maintenance items need to be addressed, and how to reset the light.
its not a light, reset with your key
The maintenance required light only goes on after 7,500 miles since last 'maintenance'. The maintence required light will not turn off by replacing or changing anything, the only way to turn it off is by putting your key in the key slot next to the light.
It requires service: Either it needs to go in for oil change and similar normal maintenance or there is something gone wrong.
If a Honda Civic brake light is on then the system needs to be checked. The pads may be low and require maintenance to be safely operable.
This same thing happened to me. Use the ignition key and push the button(indent) in beside it.
it needs to be serviced
