To Insert an accented letter:

1) Ensure that "Num Lock" is switched on on the Numerical Keypad on the right hand side of the keyboard.

2) Hold down the ALT key (to the left of the space bar) and type the codes below, on the Numerical Keypad. (NOT the numbers at the top of the keyboard)

3) Release the ALT key.à: 0224 â:0226 é: 0233 è: 0232 ê:0234 ë: 0235 ç: 0231 î:0238 ï: 0239 ô: 0244 ù:0249 û: 0251 Ç: 0199 oe:0156

_______________

I have a better solution: Right click on EN icon on the taskbar, select Settings: add: choose English (Canada)* and select Canadian Multilingual standard . Click OK, click Apply, click OK.

Now to use just go to your Taskbar, click on EN icon and change it to English Canada. There you go.

Now you just need to learn Wikipedia Keyboard layout by heart or better print until you get use to it. No more code. file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Ora/My%20Documents/Downloads/File-KB_Canadian_Multilingual_Standard.htm

You may need to use right Ctrl a lot to get some characters.

Here is the French characters found on the Canadian Multilingual keyboard:

ç ]

è '

à #

é /

ù \

ê [ e

î [ i

ô [ o

û [ u

â [ a

œ Ctrl + e

æ Ctrl + a

ë Right Shift + [ together, then press e

ä Right Shift + [ together, then press a

ö Right Shift + [ together, then press o

ï Right Shift + [ together, then press

ü Right Shift + [ together, then press

«» Alt Gr + z or Alt Gr + x

æ (Right)Ctrl + press together a and e

œ Ctrl + press together o and e

¹ (right) Ctrl + 1

² (right) Ctrl + 2

³ (right) Ctrl + 3

¼ (right) Ctrl + 4

½ (Right) Ctrl + 5

½ (Right) Ctrl + 6

*(The Canadian Multilingual keyboard uses the QWERTY keyboard which is easier than the French AZERTY keyboard which also doesn't have œ or æ)! boo! Sniff! :'-(

That's it I'm swapping! Long live the Canadians! You rock!

To type an accent, you first enter the accent key combo to type a combining character, and then the vowel to be accented. If a combining character is followed by a space, it will be isolated.

´ (é): alt/option + e (followed by e)

` (à): alt/option + ` (followed by a)*

ˆ (ê): alt/option + i (followed by e)

¨ (ü): alt/option + u (followed by u)

*the ` key is under the esc key, it also has a ~ (tilde)

Then there is a ç, which is just alt/option + c, since the accent is unique to that letter.

If you get good, you can memorize these and integrate them into your typing.

I hope I helped!

There is an ASCII code for any character, symbol, or other regular or accented letter.
To use the ASCII code, hold down the [alt] key and type the four-digit code given in the linked ASCII codes chart.

ex: the code [alt+ 0233] > é

The method works in any text or word processing software.
