The pickle fork will have to be wide enough to slide around the tripod joint housing. Hold it at 45 degrees and give it a good solid whack. Hard enough whack to dislodge the C clip holding it in. Hope this helps

How do you remove the lower ball joint on a 1991 Dodge Caravan?

- Remove wheel - remove caliper and brake pads - remove rotor - you should use a ball-joint separator (a.k.a. pickle-fork) to remove the ball-joint otherwise it is a very difficult process.

How to Remove lower ball joint 70 cutlass?

use a pickle fork to bust it loose from the spindle and then they are usually pop riveted in place if they have never been changed, drill the pop rivets out and the ball joint is out, install the new ball joints with bolts and nuts.

How do you fix the ball joints on your 1997 Chevy Blazer?

1. Jack up the vehicle and remove the tire. Remember to set the brake, use chock blocks and jack stands. 2. You will need a second jack under the A-arm, remove the cotter pin and nut on the upper or lower ball joint. 3. Using a "pickle" fork (a special tool used to separate ball joints), place the fork between the ball joint and the mount. Hit with hammer until the joint seperates. 4. Replace new joint in reverse order of removal.

How do you change a ball joint on 99 Mazda millenia?

you need a good ball joint separator. if you use a pickle fork, you will destroy the boot. so, if you are going to reuse the joint, you will have to use the screw in type. once you separate the ball joint, then it bolts to the control arm with 3 bolts. first, pull the wheel. to be safe, unbolt the brackets that hold the brake hose, and remove the abs sensor and tie it up. remove the brake caliper, and tie up out of the way. disconnect the sway bar link. remove brake rotor for clearance. i always break loose the bolts on the bottom of the ball joint before i disconnect the ball joint

How do you change the front wheel bearings in a 2003 Monte Carlo?

You have to replace the entire hub assembly, the wheel bearings are inside of it. Jack up car, remove tire, remove brake caliper and rotor, remove hub nut on cv axle, remove bottom ball joint nut(use pickle fork tool to remove ball joint from hub), tap cv shaft loose of hub, unbolt strut from hub, unplug abs wire, and replace hub assembly. Reverse steps to reassemble.

How do you change 1997 kia drive shafts?

heres what i did for both front cv shaft: jack car up onto jack stands. remove wheels remove brake calipers remove brake caliper mounting bracket remove rotor (use impact hammer to remove rotor screws or drill the heads off) unbolt lower ball joint use pickle fork to pry ball joint from hub (this will likely ruin the rubber on the ball joint, so replace. otherwise use a tie-rod end puller the remove) pry the dent out of the keyway on the end of the drive shaft use impact wrench to remove driveshaft nut use 6" jaw gear puller to remove hub from end of drive shaft yank on driveshaft hard to remove from tranny

What tools do you need to replace the idle arm on a 1999 Chevy S10 blazer?

If the nut is castellated then a pair of pliers to remove the cotter pin. Rent a "pickle fork" from a local autoparts store to remove the ball joint end from the cross linkage. Use appropriate sockets to remove the pitman arm from the chassis mount. Use a good rust penetrant to ease disassembly 24 hours before doing the work, this gives the penetrant time to work.

How do you remove the lower ball joints on a 1995 Oldsmobile ciera?

remove tires, remove both caliper bridge bolts, put caliper on upper control arm, remove rotor, take out lower ball joint bolt, using pry bar or pipe separate lower ball joint, if not lose already use pickle fork or a bar to put pressure and separate, move steering knuckle away from lower ball joint, use air hammer or equiv. and push rivets out of ball joint. once all three rivets are pressed out ball joint will fall out and re install. install ball joint, some come with bolts and nuts. factory control arm will only come with new riveted ball joint. put bolts and nuts on new ball joint, tighten install zerx fitting, re-attach steering kuckle to ball joint by pushing down on the lower control arm and then forward on the knuckle. to align ball joint with hole on knuckle. re-install new ball joint bolt. once tight grease zerx fitting. re install rotor, caliper ect.

How do you remove a door panel for a 1981 El Camino?

1. remove the arm rest 2. remove the 2 large screws behind arm rest 3. use a 'pickle fork' to snap the door panel retainers loose. Pickle fork looks like a wide blade screwdriver with a slot cut in the center. Pull the panel out just enough to be able to see where the retainers are and put the fork on either side of each retainer and pry it out. You'll probably break a couple so have 2 or 3 new ones available. 4. There may or may not be a screw at each end of the top trim...if so, remove and work the trim piece out. 5. Lift panel off carefully as the window controls will still be attached (if you have power windows)

Removing front wheel bearing on a 1997 sunfire?

Remove wheel, Remove axle nut(32mm), loosen tie rod nut & lightly hammer out tie rod to remove(with nut at end of thread) to avoid thread damage. Do the same with lower ball joint & use a "pickle fork" to separate the ball joint. Knock in the axle & use a block of wood to keep from damaging the axle end in order to separate the axle from hub & bearing assembly. Bolts that hold on the hub & bearing assembly are held on from the inside(4). Would be a good idea to either use heat(torche) to help with removal or a good penetrating fluid. alt answer-should not have to remove anything but the hub assembly, the big nut on the cv shaft and the 4 bolts that hold the assembly on

How do you change the fork seals on a 96 Virago 250?

Remove wheel, fender. Remove Allen bolt at bottom of fork with impact wrench, it usually will not come loose, if you are trying it by hand unless you stick the special tool down into the top of fork tubes. (I use a broom handle), remove dust seals on fork legs, remove circlip, carefully remove oil seals, replace them, and reverse procedure for reassembly, add oil to fork tubes. Bubba
