Once you unlock your iPhone, you have two places to get apps instead of just one:
- The App Store: Just as before, you can download and install apps from the App Store and use them as normal.
- Cydia: Cydia will be your new repository for jailbroken apps, themes, extensions, and tweaks. You can view them by repository (who makes and distributes them), but most helpful is by category. You can separate them into themes, games, ringtones, etc.
Important Note: Many people are under the impression that jailbreaking your iPhone will allow you to get App Store apps for free, and this is not correct. It just extends the functionality of your iPhone by giving you more flexibility. Here are some examples:
- Want five icons on your dock instead of four? Install the "Five Icon Dock" tweak.
- Want to scroll down instead of across from your Home Screen? Install "Infiniboard." ($1.99, IIRC)
- Want to be able to put as many apps into a folder as you wish? Install "Infinifolder." ($1.99, IIRC)
- Want to be able to view and manage files on your iPhone? Install iFile ($4.99, IIRC)
As I mentioned, some of these apps cost money, but they are by legitimate developers and I will vouch for some of them. They're often worth the cost.
